The ESOS Act
The Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000 is the primary Australian legislation regulating international education.
The ESOS Act regulates:
- the registration process obligations of registered providers
- The Tuition Protection Service; and
- enforcement and compliance powers.
There are 3 main objectives:
| Objectives | How this is achieved |
| 1. To provide financial and tuition assurance to overseas students, for courses that they have paid for. |
|
| 2. To protect and enhance Australians reputation for quality education and training services. |
|
| 3. To complement Australians migration laws by ensuring providers collect and report information relevant to the administration of the law relating to student visas. |
